Supported deployment platforms
Work Focal is tested against a defined set of 64-bit Linux server platforms. Compatibility is based on the operating-system release, processor architecture, PostgreSQL major version, and the maintenance status of the host platform.
Supported hosts should remain current within their selected major release. Work Focal does not require customers to freeze an operating system, database minor release, or unrelated runtime stack solely to preserve application compatibility.
| Distribution | Supported releases | x86_64 | ARM64 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red Hat Enterprise Linux | 8, 9, 10 | Supported | Supported |
| Rocky Linux | 8, 9, 10 | Supported | Supported |
| AlmaLinux | 8, 9, 10 | Supported | Supported |
| Oracle Linux | 8, 9, 10 | Supported | Supported |
| Debian | 12 (Bookworm), 13 (Trixie) | Supported | Supported |
| Ubuntu Server LTS | 22.04 (Jammy), 24.04 (Noble), 26.04 (Resolute) | Supported | Supported |
| Amazon Linux | 2023 | Supported | Supported |
| Distribution | Release | Work Focal status | Host maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debian | 11 (Bullseye) | Extended compatibility | Debian LTS ended August 31, 2026. Prefer Debian 12 or 13 for new deployments. |
| Ubuntu Server LTS | 20.04 (Focal) | Extended compatibility | Standard support has ended. Continued security maintenance requires Ubuntu Pro / ESM. |
Work Focal support assumes that the underlying host continues to receive appropriate security maintenance. A host that has passed its vendor-supported lifecycle should be upgraded even if the Work Focal executable remains technically compatible.
| PostgreSQL major | Work Focal status | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| 18 | Supported | Current upstream-supported major |
| 17 | Supported | Upstream-supported |
| 16 | Supported | Upstream-supported |
| 15 | Supported | Upstream-supported |
| 14 | Supported / transition | Upstream support ends November 12, 2026 |
Work Focal intends to support the oldest PostgreSQL major version still under upstream community support through the newest stable major version, subject to the Work Focal compatibility suite. When PostgreSQL retires a major release, Work Focal support for that release is retired with it.
- Bare metal
- Dedicated physical servers running a supported operating system and architecture.
- Virtual machines
- KVM and VMware environments using the same supported Linux targets.
- AWS
- EC2 deployments, including supported ARM64 environments on Graviton and Amazon Linux 2023.
- Oracle Cloud
- OCI virtual machines and ARM64 Ampere instances using a supported Linux distribution.
- Google Cloud
- Compute Engine instances using a supported operating system and processor architecture.
- DigitalOcean
- Droplets and compatible virtual-machine deployments using a supported Linux release.
Cloud providers are deployment environments, not separate product editions. Architecture support depends on the processor and operating-system combinations made available by the selected provider.
| Work Focal application | Native 64-bit Work Focal executable |
|---|---|
| PostgreSQL | Required; supported upstream major release |
| Java / JVM | Not required |
| Servlet / application server | Not required |
| Vendor-hosted control plane | Not required |
Host lifecycle and maintenance
Support applies to maintained major operating-system releases and the extended-compatibility cases explicitly listed above. Hosts should remain current with security and maintenance updates within their selected major release.
Only platforms listed on this page are part of the verified host matrix. Additional operating systems can be evaluated separately without implying support before they are included here.
